MX Player was named the highest streaming app in India for 2019 by App Annie, a San Francisco-based research firm that specialises in data on the mobile app industry.



MX PLAYER, a video-streaming app owned by Times Internet, aims to become a multi-modal entertainment app because it expands into music, gaming and international markets.

MX Player was followed by Hotstar, Netflix, Amazon Prime and JioTV on the App Annie list.

While 2019 was an honest year, the corporate has miles to travel , MX Player chief executive KARAN BEDI said. “We ended 2019 with 280 million monthly active users,” he added.

“We are a multi-modal entertainment platform. We started music streaming six months back. Now, we've launched gaming. we would like to offer 360-degree entertainment. We also are beginning to explore international markets,” the CEO said. Times Internet is that the digital arm of the days Group, which also publishes The Economic Times.

MX Player, which raised about $110 million recently, will invest that in developing original content, expand into international markets and for brand spanking new initiatives like gaming, Bedi said.

MX Player is actively evaluating launching the platform in South and Southeast Asia and therefore the Middle East .

As much as 80% of MX PLAYER’s audience falls below the age of 35, 75% is male and 55% of them live outside the highest eight metro cities in India, he said.

“Gaming may be a natural fit our audience. Affinity thereto is high. within the last two years, gaming has become mainstream in India as MX PLAYER data and mobile penetration increased. It are able to do a big scale,” Bedi said, adding that its beta launch results were encouraging.

The company has no plans as of now to start out charging people for content and it believes that there's growth left within the advertising-supported video on demand (AVOD) market, he said. “2020 are going to be a tipping point for digital video advertising. it's already growing fast.”
